Owning Your Gray Hair Like a Boss

Gray hair happens.

Every five seconds, a woman somewhere is pulling out a silver strand in disdain. I quit pulling mine out for fear of retribution from my hormones, stress, or some other horrible catastrophe. I KNEW these gray-growing minions of life would send me two grays for every one I pulled out. It’s so wrong on so many levels. Yet, at the same time, gray is so right, beautiful, and empowering! We just need to know what gray is, how to care for it, and why we gotta own it like a Big Sassy Boss Lady!

What is gray hair?

I like to call them my Crazy Lady hairs. They’re unlike any other hair, taking on a life of their own! These glimmering strands can manifest as straight, soft and white, or curly, coarse and silver. Mine tend to be coarse and wiry grays that grow straight out of my head like “My Favorite Martian” antennas.

I really don’t feel like giving gray the benefit of a science-y explanation. But, I will just because…I don’t know…I want to sound smarter than I am snarky about the subject. I’ll spare you my childish stomp of foot and soulful “HUMPH!”

Here goes.

“Your hair follicles have pigment cells that make melanin, a chemical that gives your hair its color. As you age, these cells start to die. Without pigment, new hair strands grow in lighter and take on various shades of gray, silver, and eventually white.” (source WebMd, https://wb.md/2VbMA5z)

Well, that was relatively painless, don’t you think? I do want to point out, while graying is mainly caused by aging; our genetics, lifestyle, stress, and even ethnicity play a role.

How do we care for gray hair?

Tender, loving care is key. Shampoo and condition with products made for your hair type. Be sure to condition, condition, condition! A weekly deep conditioning treatment will nourish and soften the wild things. I use Uncut revive+renew hair remedy every week (you can get it here). My grays are soft and easily styled. Another bennie with revive+renew is the ingredients used in it deepens hair color, slows the graying process, and encourages growth. Amazing. I love it!

TIP: If you have coarse, curly or ethnic hair, add a few drops of revive+renew to your conditioner for an added boost of moisture and protection!

Why should we own gray hair like a Big Sassy Boss Lady?

Because we earned every ever-lovin’ one of them!

Oh yes. Gray hair is a status symbol among women of a certain age. Our gray hair represents a journey through the darkest valleys and most brilliant mountaintops of life. We are the teachers and guides of the future. We are the epitome of survivors and warriors, waving our silver banner for all to see!

“The silver-haired head is a crown of splendor and glory; It is found in the way of righteousness.”

Proverbs 16:31 (AMP)

For the younger girls blessed with a crown of shining silver glory, it’s a statement of your uniqueness and beauty! It says, “I am fearless! I am exquisite! I am a fashion-forward style statement who doesn’t have to dye my hair this gorgeous color!” Embrace your gray, Little Boss Princess! It was created JUST FOR YOU!!

“I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.”

Psalm 139:14 (AMP)

Even with the challenges of gray hair, two things will never change about it:

Your glistening strands will always shine in the sun and glimmer under the moonlit sky.

TIP:

Take time to style your hair. Find an easy style that flatters your face. This will build your confidence and give you an awesome outlook on your silver crown.

Now, go on, Girl-

ROCK that strong, beautiful, glorious gray like the Sassy Boss Lady (or Little Boss Princess) you are!!
