Balanced pH is Your Summer Hair Lifeguard!

Hey there, Summer Girls!

I can imagine the fun you’re having: lounging by the pool, walking in the sand, boogie boarding waves, soaking up the sun, and wondering if all that fun-having is wigging out pH balance in your hair. Girl, am I right? (Ha, well I think about it a lot!)

Today, I’m going to answer the burning question, “Is balanced pH key to keeping my glorious locks luscious and healthy?”

Short answer: yes, indeed!

Let's dive into the fascinating world of pH balance! The pH scale measures acidity or alkalinity. Our hair has a slightly acidic pH of around 4.0-5.5 is ideal. For unprocessed, uncut hair, it can get as low as 3.8! This helps to seal the hair cuticles, preventing damage and frizz. However, the alkalinity of chlorinated pool water is typically between 7.1-7.8. Saltwater alkalinity comes in at 8.1-8.2. These levels disrupt the natural pH of your hair, expanding the cuticle, leaving it vulnerable to damage like frizz, static, breakage, and more.

In order to restore pH balance, start by rinsing your hair thoroughly with fresh water immediately after swimming. This helps remove any residual chemicals or salt. Gently squeeze out the excess water, then spritz your hair with The pHx (“the fix”) pH-balancing spray, and work it through with your fingers.

The pHx truly is “The pHx-er”! She neutralizes the effects of chlorine or salt by immediately bringing your hair back to its acidic happy place, leaving your hair feeling soft, smooth, and healthy. Make sure to follow up with your favorite Uncut shampoo and conditioner when you get home!

That’s it, my little ray of Summer Sunshine! Having balanced pH really is the lifeguard who's keeping your strong, beautiful and glorious locks…well, strong, beautiful and glorious!
